 Choppers Rescue Girl Scouts
Over 150 Girl Scouts and their leaders were rescued by CH-46s aircraft from Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron - 165.  Click on the photo to the right, to read the newspaper article.

The 1st Marine Division Band is playing along side the USS Tripoli has the Tripoli departs from the White Beach Pier.  Aboard the Tripoli is a battalion from the 1st MarDiv and HMM-165.

 Aboard the LPH-10 (Landing Platform Helicopters) during November 1971, the Flight Equipment Shop poses for a group photo.  On the USS Tripoli are (first row, left to right) L/Cpl. Ray Langowski, Cpl. Ron Mullinex, Sgt. Norm Spiewak, & Cpl. Anthony Costello.  In the second row (l to r) are Sgt. Ron Newcom, 1/Lt. Mike Stanton and S/Sgt. Jim Vinion.

 A Ch-46s prepares to hook-up to an external load as part of a verticle replenishment mission assigned to HMM-165, while serving aboard the USS Tripoli somewhere in the Indian Ocean.  There were no routine activities associated with a CH-46 squadron during these times and in this theater of operation.   During this month HMM-165 lost seven crew members while they server their Country.
